i didn't have any formal education in design when i started in 2004. i'd been fiddling with photoshop for 10 years, and a friend that worked at a sign shop knew what i could do and mentioned it to his bosses. i was paid $7 an hour to learn illustrator and design flyers, banners, posters, business cards, and signage. it was the best start to the career i'd never thought i wanted.
